The lead vocals on both versions are sung by Gene Ween. The La Cucaracha version, released four months later, was produced by long-time Ween producer Andrew Weiss and sounds more like a conventional Ween song. Aaron got his gay Euro fucking DJ song, which I take absolutely no responsibility for. It was the first time we ever tried that. He found the guy that did the Crazy Frog stuff. But he felt so strongly about doing it that it was like, "Okay, let's see what happens." I figured in a million years, he would never pull it off, like find a gay Euro DJ to do it, and it only took him about five seconds to find someone. My feeling was, this should be the first track on our record. It was something that was very important to him for some reason. and he really wanted to work with, as he says, a gay Euro DJ. ĭean Ween explained the story behind the EP version of the song:Īaron did a demo of "Friends" for this record. ( Greg Frey is credited with additional recording). This resulted in the Friends EP version of the song, produced and mixed by two German electronic dance music producers, CJ Stone and DJ VooDoo, the latter of whom was known for producing music for Crazy Frog. However, after recording it, he had the idea to have the song produced in a European EDM style, a decision which Dean apparently did not agree with. "Friends" was initially written and recorded by Gene Ween as a demo for La Cucaracha.

"Friends" is a song by Ween, released in two different versions on the 2007 The Friends EP and the 2007 album La Cucaracha.
